WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

This 3.5-hour walking experience takes you past the most important buildings and historical sites in Coyoacán. As we visit this traditional neighborhood, we will see the Parish of St. John the Baptist, a building intended to be a cathedral, see the Palace of Cortes and the home he shared with his wife, the native interpreter, Malintzin.

We will visit the farmers’ market, full of handicrafts and home to the best typical food tostadas. We will see the plaza and church of Santa Catarina, visit the Reyes Heroles cultural center, walk past the Italian Government’s Cultural Institute, and see the Coyotes’ and Hidalgo parks.

While at the parks we will see the traditional Siberia ice-cream parlor, the statue of Founding Father Miguel Hidalgo and walk past a typical cantina. Many other surprises await you, like the famous Jarocho coffee shop, the street vendors and in general, the unique atmosphere of Coyoacán.

WHERE YOU WILL BE

We will meet inside the borough of Coyoacán, on the once famous Camino de San Ángel. From there we will walk towards the heart of Coyoacán, the La Conchita Park and then, past the farmers’ market towards Del Carmen Coyoacán, former home of the Kahlo family.

You will learn history from Pre-Hispanic to Colonial to the Modern Mexico in which Frida Kahlo came to live. You will enjoy visiting the Parish of Saint John the Baptist, Coyoacán’s central parks, and one of its best farmers’ markets.

 

STARTING AND ENDING POINTS, FACILITIES AND TRANSPORTATION

The experience begins inside Coyoacán, across from Santa Catarina park. This experience does not go back to the starting point, it ends outside of Frida Kahlo’s home. Your host will always remain with you until he makes sure everyone has the right directions and/or help for their next destination.

Up to 10 guests ages 18 and up can attend our public experiences. All experiences include a long walk, mostly under the sun, with very few restroom stops (depending on the destination). Liquids aren't allowed inside venues, please be willing to dispose of your containers.

We begin on the dot and do not wait for missing participants. Neither you nor us can be late to our next destination.

 

WEATHER

 

This experience goes on rain or shine, please come prepared. In case of rain, we will do our best to spend as much time as possible indoors. In case of unforeseen closures of streets or venues, we are always prepared with an equivalent or alternate route.
