WHAT YOU WILL DO

​

You'll learn of the discovery of silver and gold in Mexico and South America, how the Spaniards opened a mint in Mexico to coin all the precious metals and send them to the old world. You will visit the magnificent coin collections in three museums occupying historical monuments.

​

The change from one to eight Real coins (Pieces of 8) will be explained  and examples of them become legal tender in other countries will be shown. You will visit the Museum of the Banco de México (Mexico's Federal Reserve Bank), the Interactiva Museum of Economics and the National Numismatic Museum, all within the World Heritage site of the Historic Center.

History of modern world currency of today will also be shown as it is all derived from the Peso. Wonderful examples of ancient currency will be on display, depicting the progress from real value coins to fiduciary value coins.

 

WHERE YOU WILL BE

 

We will be in the Historic Center of Mexico City. We will walk from the 16th Century city limits by Alameda Park into the magnificent 1927 Art Deco building of the Banco de México before going around the corner to the former Hospital and Convent of the Bethlehemites' Order, now hosting the Interactive Museum of Economics. We will leave for the National Numismatic Museum occupying the ancient Casa de Moneda or National Mint of Mexico, on the way we will see th Customs' House at the heart of the very first World Trade Center.

On this experience you will discover almost 500 years of specialized currency history that originated in Mexico. You will see the development of the world's modern monetary system.

STARTING AND ENDING POINTS, FACILITIES AND TRANSPORTATION

​

The experience begins at the Banco de México main building on Cinco de Mayo Avenue. Visits do not return to the starting point. This experience ends at the National Numismatic Museum, a couple of blocks from the Argentina station of Metrobus line 4N. Uber or other cars can pick you up at the end. Your host will always remain with you until he makes sure everyone has the right directions and/or help for their next destination.

Any experience can be canceled at least 7 days before the experience starts for a refund minus a 20% processing charge. Rescheduling and changes can be made at least 3 days before the experience starts. Refunds are counted from the original date of purchase.

 

GUEST REQUIREMENTS

 

Up to 10 guests ages 18 and up can attend our public experiences. All experiences include a long walk, mostly under the sun, with very few restroom stops (depending on the destination). Liquids aren't allowed inside venues, please be willing to dispose of your containers.

We begin on the dot and do not wait for missing participants. Neither you nor us can be late to our next destination.

 

WEATHER

 

This experience goes on rain or shine, please come prepared. In case of rain, we will do our best to spend as much time as possible indoors. In case of unforeseen closures of streets or venues, we are always prepared with an equivalent or alternate route.
